Expert: Hispanic Consumers Should Be Houston Grocers’ Target

Houston retailers should target the growing Hispanic consumer population over the next five years to boost their competitiveness, minding details such as shelf height, music and other things that go beyond product selection and advertising, says Jason Baker of retail brokerage firm Baker Katz. Hispanic shoppers spend an average of $425 on groceries each month — which is more per capita than their Anglo counterparts – and they are 10 years younger on average, Baker said. He added that Hispanics often use technology when making spending decisions.
