Momentum™ Indoor Climbing, inspiring world-class climbing gyms, recently broke ground on a 36,000 square foot climbing gym in Katy, Texas. Momentum Katy sits on 2.75 acres at 25410 Katy Mills Parkway, roughly 25 miles west of downtown Houston.
A full-service climbing gym, Momentum Katy will be one of the largest indoor climbing facilities in the United States, offering guests 12,700 square feet of roped climbing, 6,950 square feet of bouldering, a 5,520 square foot cross training area, and a 2,800 square foot children’s climbing and play zone. Other amenities include a yoga studio, retail shop, locker rooms and a lounge area.
Momentum established a reputation as a leader in indoor climbing when it launched in 2006 in Sandy, Utah. The brand is known for its innovative wall design and youth programming that has produced champions like Nathaniel Coleman, 19, of Utah who this year became the second person in history to win the USA Climbing Bouldering National Champion title in both the youth and adult categories. Momentum has also tapped top-talent like Texas native Alex Puccio, a 13-time World Cup medalist, and nine time national bouldering champion, to coach young people and adults at its Salt Lake City locations and plans to offer similar opportunities in Katy.
“Our vision for Momentum Katy is to share the inspiration of our favorite climbing areas with Houston area climbers, and newcomers to the sport,” said Jeff Pedersen, co-founder, and CEO of Momentum. “Momentum member communities are supportive and friendly as climbers of all abilities strive for the common goal of self-improvement.
After hundreds of hours dreaming about and designing the perfect climbing experience, we are excited to be bringing it to life in Katy.”
To execute the Katy deal, Momentum worked with Ben Brown of the Houston-based brokerage firm Baker Katz, who also serves as Momentum’s master broker. Working with Baker Katz, Momentum is also opening a large bouldering gym near downtown Houston. More details on this location will be available in the weeks ahead.
“Momentum is an exciting brand with a lot of energy and an inspiring story with the unique ability to bring communities together through revolutionary facilities and an engaging atmosphere,” said Brown. “The Houston market continues to thrive, and we were fortunate to identify and secure an outstanding location in Katy for Momentum’s market entry. We’re confident that the brand will thrive here.”
