People traveling by the Brenham Crossing shopping center likely have noticed construction crews at the site over the past few weeks.
BakerKatz has started a new phase of construction, with preparatory work occurring to build two multi-tenant shell buildings. The building will go up next to the existing stores on the northeast and northwest sides of the development, closest to Highway 290.
Ben Brown, development partner with BakerKatz, says an additional 20,000 square feet of gross leasable area will become available with this construction. As for what will be coming to the shopping center, he says the hope is to secure new leases and tenants in the coming months, with an emphasis on finding a versatile mix of businesses for service, dining, medical and daily needs.
Brown is excited about the current status of Brenham Crossing and its future, saying the first phase of the project was very successful and that the retailers who were part of that first wave have been doing well. He says Brenham and Washington County have proven to be a strong audience of consumers, and he is glad the shopping center can serve as an amenity not just to the city and county, but also neighboring areas.
According to Brown, construction on the shell buildings should wrap up by the end of the year. At that point, the building can be turned over to the new tenants so they can build out their spaces. He expects the new businesses will be open by the summer of 2026.
